Skills
Skills are reusable markdown playbooks in a workspace. You write when to use a skill and the full instructions. Agents attach a subset; the model sees names and descriptions, then calls get_skill to load the body.
Skills are not code. For executable logic, use functions. For when to keep instructions in Task vs a skill, see Prompts.
When to use
- Capture a repeatable review, writing, or ops workflow the agent should follow only when relevant
- Keep long instructions out of the main Task prompt until they are needed
- Share the same playbook across multiple agents
Create a skill
Open Build → Skills (Developer sidebar). The page uses a list on the left and the selected skill on the right, like functions.
- Click Create Skill (or Build With AI to draft it in Studio).
- Enter a Name (unique slug) and optional Description (when to use it).
- Select the skill, click Edit, write Content in markdown, then Save. Name and description are edited from the details card.
Name rules: start with a letter; lowercase letters, digits, hyphens, and underscores; max 64 characters. get_skill is reserved.
Description is what the model sees in the skill catalog. Content is returned only after get_skill.
Attach skills to an agent
On the agent Tools tab, open Manage Tools and select skills under Skills. You can also type # in the Task editor and pick a skill.
Selecting at least one skill always attaches get_skill. That companion is not listed as a separate picker item. Removing the last skill also removes get_skill.
Selected skills are a catalog, not individual callable tools. At run time the model is told the attached skill names and descriptions, and must call get_skill with the skill name before following those instructions.
