WhatsApp Templates
WhatsApp Templates are Twilio Content / WhatsApp Business message templates managed in Vettero. You create or sync them for a connected Twilio WhatsApp service, submit eligible types for Meta approval, and send them from agents or workflows.
They require a Twilio connected service with WhatsApp under Integrations → Third Party Services. Placeholders use Twilio-style {{1}}, {{2}} — not Liquid ({{ env.* }}). See Variables for the difference.
When to use
- Send business-initiated WhatsApp messages that need an approved template
- Use interactive session templates (24h window) that are not submitted for approval
- Keep Vettero in sync with templates already stored in Twilio
Set up templates for a service
Open Templates → WhatsApp Templates.
- Choose a Twilio WhatsApp connected service (or connect one first).
- Create Template or Sync from Twilio.
- Fill Template Name, Language, Template Type, type-specific fields, and Variables.
- For approval-eligible types, use Submit for Approval, then Refresh Status as Meta reviews.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Edit | Change a template while it is still draft |
| Submit for Approval | Send to Meta with an approval name and category |
| Refresh Status | Pull the latest approval state from Twilio |
| Delete | Remove the template in Vettero and Twilio |
Template types
| Type | Approval |
|---|---|
| Text, Media, Quick Reply, Call to Action | Can submit for WhatsApp approval |
| Card, Carousel, List Picker, Catalog, Authentication | Session (24h) only — not submitted for approval |
Approval
When you submit, set:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Approval name | Lowercase letters, digits, and underscores (^[a-z0-9_]+$) |
| Category | Utility, Marketing, or Authentication |
Statuses include draft, received, pending, approved, rejected, paused, and disabled. Filter the list by draft, pending, approved, or rejected.
Variables
WhatsApp template variables are numbered placeholders such as {{1}} and {{2}}. Named (non-numeric) variables are not allowed. When an agent or workflow sends the template, you supply values for those positions.
Use from agents and workflows
Attach WhatsApp template tools (for example Send WhatsApp Template / Get WhatsApp Template) so the model or graph can send an approved or session template on your Twilio sender. See WhatsApp workflow blocks.
You can also expose selected templates on a workspace MCP Server under WhatsApp Templates.
Limits
- Needs a Twilio WhatsApp connected service.
- Edit only while draft; approved templates cannot be edited — delete and recreate if you must change them.
- Deleting removes the template from Twilio as well.
Where WhatsApp templates are used
| Place | How |
|---|---|
| Agents / workflows | WhatsApp blocks (send message, send/list/get template) |
| Channels | Outbound WhatsApp via a channel and Twilio |
| MCP Servers | Expose as waTemplates tools |
